Daniel Smith Papermaking Supplies
Daniel Smith Dry Paper Sizing.
Use dry paper sizing to improve the strength, stiffness, smoothness or weight of a paper or to control its absorbency. Stable and colorless, our high-quality cornstarch sizing dissolves rapidly in cold water and is neutral pH and nontoxic. Recommended for use in making paper, it can also be applied to finished sheets, but might change the surface of the existing sizing.
Felts for Papermaking.
The sizing catchers used for printmaking are also excellent for absorbing water and sizing during the papermaking process. Stacks which alternate felts with newly formed sheets can be compressed to release excess water and facilitate drying of the sheets. The sizing catchers are 95% wool, 5% polyester and can be hand-washed.
Cotton Linters.
Use second-cut 100% cotton linters for papermaking and three-dimensional paper casting. One pound usually contains two to three 26½" x 34½" sheets. Sizes and weights vary.
Daniel Smith Methylcellulose.
This nontoxic paper sizing material consists of cellulose fibers obtained from cotton linters or wood pulp and chemically modified to be water-soluble. A fine, almost white powder, it mixes into solution rapidly in hot or cold water. The solutions formed are completely pH-neutral and stable.
