‘The art of painting should be a personal response and characterization of what is before us and simultaneously in harmony with it. I’d like to see myself as a painter continuing in the tradition of the ‘California Barbizon movement’ of the early 20th Century. The energy, what gives a scene life, I’d like to find. In essence I am trying to paint what cannot be painted! Once I can do that I may be able to paint something of significance.’
