Linda Doll came to us LIVE from the USA on Friday, October 14th to share her favorite techniques and color palette.

Here’s a brief Q&A with Linda:

Warum machst du Kunst?

For enjoyment, pleasure and relaxation.

Wie lange malen Sie schon?

Since I was a child.

Do you have formal art training?

Yes – a Bachelor Degree in Painting & Printmaking from San Diego State.

Do you consider yourself to be a working artist or hobbyist?

I have been a working artist for 50+ years.

Was inspiriert dich?

Life and the interaction of people within it.

Do you listen to music while painting?

No – I like it very quiet when I paint.

Hattest du einen Mentor?

Rex Brandt was my mentor for many years before he passed.

Malst du jeden Tag?

I don’t paint every day, but I do draw or sketch concepts or ideas every day.

Malen Sie lieber im Atelier oder im Freien?

I go outside to sketch several times a week and paint in my sketchbook, but for larger pieces I prefer to work in the studio.

Malst du ein Bild nach dem anderen oder arbeitest du an mehreren gleichzeitig?

I often have several paintings going at once, which allows me to get away from a piece. They aren’t quite as precious if I have several going.

Wie viele Kernfarben verwenden Sie?

I have 3 core colors – Hansagelbes Licht, Chinacridon Rose Und Phthaloblau (Grünstich) – but I usually have 18 colors in my palette. I love to mix with red, yellow and blue, and I love stain colors for the first step of my painting, then I’ll add others.

Tuben, Pfannen oder Stäbe?

Tube colors are in my larger palette and pans are in my travel palettes.

How do you know when your piece is finished?

I stand it up next to other finished pieces. This usually tells me if it’s done or still needs more punch.
