New from DANIEL SMITH Artist Materials!

This single-pigment, low-staining, semi-transparent color has subtle granulation and excellent lightfastness. With soft orange undertones, Earthy Light Red immediately evokes warm, sunlit red-rock landscapes and joyful florals. It belongs on every palette.

This color’s natural warmth invites connection—with the earth, with memory, with creativity. Personally, it reminds me of the drive to Arequipa, where the mountains shift into glowing terracotta hues. It’s a color that makes you feel grounded, calm—like going on a picnic.

Features:

  • Single Pigment
  • Low Staining – Easy to lift, whether wet or dry.
  • Semi-Transparent – Works beautifully in layers of varying consistency.
  • Granulating – Subtle and luscious, especially with more pigment. (Check out my little tree and the grass near it—tell me you love it.)

Favorite Color Combos (I was shocked in the best way!):

  • 코발트 틸 블루 – Created an unbelievable range of earthy, natural greens
  • Manganese Violet – Gave me deep, saturated purples.
  • 수액 녹색 – Produced warmer, more vibrant greens—perfect for landscapes.
  • 퀴나크리돈 핑크 – Unexpectedly gorgeous! Rich carmine and warm red tones emerged.
  • With Blues – An incredible range of grays ideal for shadows, skies, and soft backgrounds:
    • Ultramarine gave me a shade close to indigo.
    • Cobalt Blue resulted in a cool, calming gray.
    • Lavender created a soft warm gray.
(Tip: Mix with less blue for earthier browns.)
