After graduating with an art degree from Government College of Arts & Crafts in Kolkata, Rajat Subhra Bandopadhyay was an advertising professional until 2011. That’s when he decided to pursue full-time painting and had a burning desire to revive watercolors in India.

Often considered as a relatively easy medium, watercolor is actually one of the toughest mediums to work with and Rajat has mastered it well. Watercolor remains his forté and he likes to capture nature, landscapes and abandoned objects through his work. In today’s world, nature is gradually perishing, so he likes to retain its beauty and essence through his paintings.

“Watercolour is the most challenging medium to handle, it is very fascinating to get the transparency, to work with layer after layer. There is no scope for correction, that’s the best part. The way one color mixes with other color with the help of water; is the most thrilling part. Some artists avoid this risk, but I enjoy it the most!”

Rajat has been the Country Leader in India for Fabriano In Acquarello since 2016. He has led many workshops, demonstrations, group and solo exhibitions and art tours across cities around the world.
