“As an artist and teacher, I have used DANIEL SMITH watercolors and oils for many years. What impresses me the most is their consistent quality. The heavy pigment load and purity of each hue guarantees smooth washes and clean layers in watercolors, and excellent mixing and coverage in oils.
I recommend them to my students as I know their journey is enhanced each time they apply paint to their surfaces. The variety available in both mediums is unparalleled. I am often asked how I achieve such brilliant color and clarity in my work, and I always answer DANIEL SMITH!”

Since arriving on Maui in 1981, Carmen Gardner’s artistic journey has led her through ten years as a popular radio personality where she explored her love of music, and the next decade as an actor/ director, including a summer at England’s Royal National Theatre where she studied with Sir Ian McKellan and other British Masters. And now, she has come full circle, back to her first love – painting. She is a signature member of the Hawaii Watercolor Society and as Regional Representative of the International Watercolor Society, she heads up the Hawai’i Chapter. Carmen has always treasured the creative process – the “getting there,” more than the arrival at a final product or performance. To that end, she is now honored to be sharing the adventure with the many Maui Masters who make the Valley Isle their home. She hopes her art reflects the spirit of the islands.
