Discover new ideas for watercolor combinations with our Monday Mixes – color mixing experiments created by DANIEL SMITH Brand Ambassador, Alison Pinto. Each Monday, Alison picks two or three colors to see how they interact with each other. In the video above are 30 mixes she has shared from this past year. Here’s her pick for this week:

Colors used here:   Naples Yellow, Sodalite Genuine, and Permanent Brown

From Alison:   “I wet the paper with clear water and drop in some juicy paint and enjoy watching it burst across the dampened surface. Sodalite, with its distinctive deep blue color, is one of the components of Lapis Lazuli. This pigment granulates beautifully, leaving a lovely blue-black texture with a soft blue-gray undertone. Even when mixed with other colors like the Permanent Brown, the distinctive granulation of Sodalite comes to the surface. Naples Yellow brings joy to the other two, making for beautiful hues! I couldn’t resist turning this into an abstract!  Monday Mixes are about having fun with 2-3 colors. This has been my go-to warm-up exercise before painting. Try it, the fun of blending might just surprise you!”
