Interference Silver, part of the Luminescent Watercolors collection, is a transparent silver that refracts light (causes light to scatter). When glazed over dark colors or painted directly onto black paper, it has an icy shine. When painted on white paper, it displays a subtle sheen.
Luminescent Watercolors are perfect for painting nature’s optical surprises – like the sparkling colors you see in bird feathers, insect bodies, fish scales and seashells. Many types of flowers have a pearly, dewy sheen. Consider the iridescence of a snail’s trail, a silvery spider’s web, a golden moon, clouds at sunset, icy snow and water reflections. Fantasy subjects like fairies, dragons and mermaids also have beautiful shimmering features.
Starting with 10 parts water to 1 part paint (by weight) in the palette, our chemist paints the top half of the swatch uniformly with a round brush to show the paint’s color and characteristics. For the bottom half, he dips a ¾” flat brush into the paint well just once, then applies the color in stripes until the brush is dry, which shows the color’s tone and behavior through a wash. We use these swatches for color matching during the manufacturing process.
