Gonzalo Vargas was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, the city where he has his artistic and professional formation.

He developed his drawing and watercolour skills from an early age. Around the age of 15, he started accompanying renowned watercolour painters who practiced “plein air” painting in the neighborhoods of Valparaiso and rural areas. From that moment on, his passion for this “water” technique would ignite and he would maintain and develop it in later years, with growing enthusiasm, seeking to represent in few features the essence and beauty of the landscape.

After graduating as an architect, he developed his passion for landscape and observation of the city even more strongly.

For several years now, he has been dedicated to the dissemination of watercolors, organizing activities such as competitions, exhibitions, watercolour workshops, plein air meetings, etc. He is currently the IWS leader for Chile, and for Fabriano in Acquarello.

“Interpreting reality, recreating images or visions, through watercolour, is a unique process, impregnated with magic, the mixture of colors and the atmospheres that emerge surprise me every time, it is like being on the edge of an abyss of infinite possibilities. In this creative process the Daniel Smith pigments are of particular importance, not only for their superior quality, but for their ability to challenge and guide us in the field of experimentation”.
