What a surprise this color study turned out to be. Lunar Blue does not behave like a flat, uniform blue. Its heavier pigments— especially those from the black component — tend to settle into the paper while the lighter particles disperse across the wash, creating a textured and visually dynamic effect.

On paper, the result is a wash filled with small “islands” of deeper pigment — perfect for nocturnal skies, restless oceans, or mystical backgrounds.

I tested lifting both while the pigment was wet and again after it had dried. In both cases, the color lifted easily without difficulty.

Beautiful Granulation

Because the pigments have different densities, the mixture naturally separates as it dries. You will see areas of intense blue alongside darker or more neutral passages. It can feel unpredictable, but that is part of its magic.
