Lorena Massa from Italy shared her favorite palette and watercolor techniques:
Here’s a little Q&A with Lorena:
If you could only take three colors with you on vacation, which three would you take?
Ultramarine Blue, Quinacridone Pink and New Gamboge. I can create monochromatic paintings using the blue, and by mixing these colors, I can obtain skin tones.
Describe a recent art show you attended.
Recently I participated in an event at Fabriano. I painted with other artists, I met friends and I saw a great exhibition. I came home feeling the joy of magical encounters with others who love watercolor. I admired paintings that inspired me and I enjoyed friendship and sharing – this for me is art!
Where were the last few photos you took that might inspire you to paint?
In June I went to London, an incredible place. I admired the animated people there and I took many photos that I’ll use for my studies. Such a wide variety of people, ethnicities and style was very enriching…it’s like the whole world in one city!
What is the best piece of advice another artist has given you?
A great master told me, “Even if you make a bad painting, it’s not a big problem! The important thing is to try again without being hard on yourself.” I often think back to this advice and I understand that we must love ourselves more, not judge ourselves and live with our mistakes.
What are you excited about working on next?
I always want to paint everything! Every face I see intrigues me and ignites my desire to paint – like light or a reflection on someone’s cheek or an unusual color. I would like to try to paint bigger portraits and lately I’ve also been interested in landscapes. We’ll see what happens!
