rajat citrus still life

In the video above, Rajat Bandopadyay shares a few images of his progress painting a watercolor still life – a burlap bag filled with citrus fruit. This painting is loaded with small textural details, which Rajat likes to develop using DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Sticks. He holds a cluster of sticks in one hand for easy access. With a small damp brush, he can easily control the amount of pigment he picks up and applies to the painting to add dimension and realism to his imagery.

“I always look for a visual which is little different. Starting with a good drawing is very important to me. The drawing process helps put me in sync with my subject, whether it’s from a reference photo or live. It’s especially important for creating a successful first wash, too.”
