“My Three Favorite Ways to Use Watercolor Sticks
- Building the structure with rich, creamy pigment
I like to start my paintings with the darks. The sticks allow me to pick up a very creamy, highly concentrated amount of pigment, which is perfect for building the initial structure of my painting. - Creating rich washes
With just a little water, I can activate the stick and get a beautiful concentration of pigment. I love using this rich color to create my washes. - Painting precise details
For very fine details, I pick up the pigment directly from the stick with a small brush. I can keep the stick right in my hand, which gives me precision without constantly going back to the palette.”

“I often hold 18–20 sticks in my left hand, selecting colors according to priority and mixing them directly from stick to stick, rarely using a palette. Occasionally, I even use my thumbnail to create finer marks or interesting effects. That’s pretty much my process. Its simplicity encourages spontaneity, experimentation, and a fresh, intuitive approach to watercolor painting.”

“I actually “hollow out” the top end of my sticks because I use such tiny brushes with them. Since the color name and band are printed near the top of the label, I intentionally wear the sticks down from the bottom so I can keep the color name visible for as long as possible. It’s a simple little trick that makes organizing my collection much easier.”

About the Brand Ambassadors
Angela Barbi
Angela Barbi Sie lebt in Spanien und studierte dort klassisches Zeichnen und expressionistische Malerei. Über 25 Jahre lang war sie Englischlehrerin an einer weiterführenden Schule und verband ihre Lehrtätigkeit mit der Malerei. In dieser Zeit koordinierte sie auch das europäische Austauschprogramm für junge Erwachsene zwischen Spanien und Großbritannien.
Ashley Hawkes
Ashley Hawkes Sie ist seit ihrer Kindheit von Kunst umgeben und hat schon mit zwei Jahren am Familientisch geschrieben, gemalt und gezeichnet. Seit über vier Jahrzehnten ist Kreativität ein fester Bestandteil ihres Lebens – sie studierte Kunst während ihrer gesamten Schulzeit und absolvierte zahlreiche Online-Kurse und Workshops zur Aquarellmalerei. In ihren Zwanzigern und Dreißigern arbeitete sie als professionelle Fotografin in Utah und San Diego. 2016 gab sie ihr Fotografie-Unternehmen auf, um ihre drei Kinder zu Hause zu unterrichten, und widmete sich etwa zur gleichen Zeit wieder der Aquarellmalerei.
Giovanni Balzarani
Giovanni Balzarani ist ein italienischer Maler, der an der Kunstakademie in Rom Malerei studierte. Bereits mit neun Jahren entdeckte er die Welt der Aquarellmalerei und erforschte während seines Studiums weitere Maltechniken. Er etablierte sich in der internationalen Aquarellszene und wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet, unter anderem von der Hong Kong International Watercolor Biennale, dem Budapest International Watercolor Festival und Fabriano in Watercolor. Sein Werk konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf Stillleben im hyperrealistischen Stil, beeinflusst von Pop-Art und Fotorealismus-Künstlern wie Andy Warhol, Ralph Goings und Chuck Close.
Rajat Bandopadhyay
Nach ihrem Kunststudium am Government College of Arts & Crafts in Kolkata, Rajat Subhra Bandopadhyay war bis 2011 in der Werbebranche tätig. Dann beschloss er, sich ganz der Malerei zu widmen und hegte den brennenden Wunsch, die Aquarellmalerei in Indien wiederzubeleben.
Aquarell gilt oft als relativ einfaches Medium, ist aber tatsächlich eines der schwierigsten, und Rajat beherrscht es meisterhaft. Aquarell ist nach wie vor seine Spezialität, und er fängt in seinen Werken gerne Natur, Landschaften und verlassene Gegenstände ein. In der heutigen Welt, in der die Natur zunehmend verschwindet, möchte er ihre Schönheit und Essenz in seinen Gemälden bewahren.
