Matthew Bird has been making art since he could hold a crayon. His parents supported him exploring the arts and he graduated with honors from the Pratt Institute of Art in 2000.
“After college, I was painting on the side while working in graphic design. It was a creative outlet where I could make a living. After being promoted to management, I was doing very little of the actual creative work and eventually I was miserable. I needed a change, so I walked away to focus on family and watercolor. My paintings communicate my deep love and respect for nature and life. Some stem from my own experiences, others reflect the simple beauty I find in everyday objects. I try to capture each subject with precision and clarity through the universal language of representational art.”
Matthew is a Signature Member of numerous organizations, including the National Watercolor Society where he served as vice president. His award-winning watercolor paintings have been exhibited in juried shows around the world. He has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur as one of “Today’s Masters,” Watercolor Magazine’s “Year’s Best Paintings” and as “One To Watch”, as well as The Artist’s Magazine, The Art Of Watercolour, and more. A sought-after teacher, Matthew has also been a contributing writer to numerous publications, including Fine Art Today and American Watercolor Weekly. Matthew lives with his wife and children outside Baltimore, where he maintains his studio.
