Every Thursday at 2pm Pacific, USA, we come together via Zoom and Facebook LIVE! Together with our Brand Ambassadors and friends, guided by our own John Cogley, we discuss one of our favorite topics: COLOR!
These sessions are brimming with inspiration and valuable insights, leaving everyone with fresh ideas and thrilling color combinations to experiment with! (Click here for the Zoom links and times!)
On Thursday, February 6th, 2025, we swatched and painted with our 10 Cobalt colors:
- Cobalt Blue
- Cobalt Blue Violet
- Cobalt Green
- Cobalt Green Deep New!
- Cobalt Green Pale
- Cobalt Teal Blue
- Cobalt Turquoise
- Cobalt Violet
- Cobalt Violet Deep
- Aureolin (Cobalt Yellow)
Below is the color comparison from our Interactive Color Map. This comprehensive and easy-to-use tool was designed to offer our customers and artists a fresh perspective for viewing and comparing colors. For this example, we have selected from the “color family” option; Cobalts.

All of these colors are either low or non-staining; they are all granulating and have excellent lightfastness. (With the exception of Aureolin, which is non-granulating and has very good lightfastness.)
One of the aspects we love most about experimenting with color during our LIVE sessions is the incredible diversity of techniques our artist Ambassadors employ with those colors! This session was no exception!
Besnik Xhemaili impressed us with his square swatches and unique blends. It’s incredible how much can be achieved by simply combining a few colors!

Angela Barbi completely mesmerized us with her vibrant splash of color and expressive brushstrokes. Our guests expressed their delight with oohs and aahs as Angela’s brush danced across the page!

Ashley Hawkes gave a flip-through of her swatch cards and read from our Color Stories brochure available for download on our website! The Color Stories are fun and illuminating (almost poetic!), providing valuable insights into this color family!

Carrie Roets Waller infused her remarkable reflective still-life glass painting style with Cobalt Teal Blue, Cobalt Blue and Aureolin (Cobalt Yellow). She uses many layers to build up depth and catch the light in her subjects!

Giovanni Balzarani demonstrated what is possible with this color family by showing various mixes and color play! He explained how each color bursts through water differently by first wetting the paper with clean water and then dropping each color in one at a time. Some colors exploded through the water and others had a gentler approach! We learn so much through play!

This session, like so many other Thursday LIVE sessions, really enlightened us to the possibilities and creative range our DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolors and other art products provide!
We encourage you to catch the replay on Facebook LIVE or our YouTube channel! We would be thrilled to have you join us LIVE on Zoom in the future! Whether you decide to turn on your camera and participate actively or keep it off and observe quietly, we welcome you either way. We simply look forward to having you with us!
