Rajat Bandopadhyay from India demonstrates his favorite palette and painting techniques.
Here’s a brief Q&A with him:
If you could take only three colors to paint with on a deserted island, which three would you choose?
It depends on the subject I am working on, but I like Yellow Ochre, Lunar Black, Sap Green and Ultramarine Blue…also Burnt Umber. Sorry that’s more than three!
What art exhibits have you entered recently?
I just came from Fabriano Acquarello in Italy – it’s one of a kind. I did plein air work and met lots of friends to exchange ideas, which was highly needed. It’s a really awesome show which rejuvenated me to create more artwork in the near future.
Where have you taken photos of scenery that might inspire you to paint?
I actually take very few photos, I usually prefer my compositions to be current for whatever subject I pursue.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from another artist?
Practice makes the work perfect, so keep doing your work – good, bad, ugly – whatever it is. Take your art seriously. If you love and respect art, it will do the same for you.
What are you excited about working on next?
I may start another series of street views, for which I did shoot some photos from different places I have traveled.
