Making art is a necessity for me and gives meaning to my life. I have always been attracted by art and music

Depuis combien de temps peignez-vous ?
Twenty-five years ago, I started with oil painting and finally switched to watercolor, my favorite art medium. I’ve always loved drawing, however, since I was very young.

Avez-vous suivi une formation artistique formelle ?
No, I’m self-taught.

Êtes-vous un artiste professionnel ou un amateur ?
For a few years now I have been working in art as a second job, holding watercolour courses and workshops both in person and online.

Qui ou quoi vous inspire ?
Much of my inspiration comes from cinema and music. I also love going to exhibitions and constantly keeping up to date with the art world.

Quel genre de musique écoutez-vous en peignant ?
I’m also passionate about music and a I’m a record collector. When I paint, I listen to a lot of music, and I enjoy many genres, including jazz, hard rock and heavy metal, progressive rock, punk and new wave, and even classical music.

Avez-vous eu un mentor ?
Non

Vous peignez tous les jours ?
Not always but almost, even if sometimes I don’t have time I always try to paint even a small thing.

Peignez-vous une toile à la fois ou travaillez-vous sur plusieurs simultanément ?
It depends, sometimes I painted several subjects with similar colors and painted them at the same time.

Créez-vous d'abord une esquisse conceptuelle ?
Yes, I do it quite often. I like to plan each piece of work by studying the color rendering for my subject. Other times, I do urban sketching outdoors in a notebook and then develop my subject on a large-format sheet of paper in the studio.

Préférez-vous peindre en atelier ou en plein air ?

Combien de couleurs principales utilisez-vous ?
I have a lot of Daniel Smith paints. And I’ve organized them into different palettes of different sizes, depending on whether I’m painting outdoors or in the studio. I can start with one or two colors for a monochromatic style, up to a maximum of five or six for the works I usually paint. I generally have about 16 to 20 essential colors in my palettes.

Utilisez-vous du liquide de masquage ?
I’ve used masking fluid in the past, and occasionally I do for specific jobs. But I tend to prefer leaving the paper white, avoiding wetting it in certain areas.

À quel moment sait-on que son œuvre est terminée ?
I know my work is finished when I manage to achieve the atmosphere I have in mind and, above all, when every other detail instead of adding information takes away freshness, spontaneity and atmosphere from my work.
