Meet Angela Barbi and learn more about her favorite watercolor palette and painting techniques.
Here’s a quick Q&A with Angela:
If you could only take three colors with you to paint on a stranded island, which three would you take?
Blu oltremare for the colour of sea and sky. Giallo di chinoftalone for the sunrise, sunny days, and reflection on water. Rosa Opera for more of the same – pink sunset skies.
Describe a recent art show/exhibit you attended that was particularly inspiring.
My recent visit to an art gallery in Lima, Peru where Nicolas Lopez had artworks. It’s amazing how he can paint such magical watercolours in almost monochromes, with so much granulation. That for me was inspiring – pure expression and freedom, but with solid structure too. I wanted to get lost in some of them.
Quali sono le ultime foto che hai scattato a paesaggi che potrebbero ispirarti a dipingere?
Yesterday I took photos of a yellow field against light blue skies. There were olive trees around it, with a little white hut and a long thin cypress tree, very dark green.
What’s the best piece of advice another artist has given you?
“Paint for yourself, for your own pleasure. Have fun while you paint – if you don’t, it will show in your painting.” —Alvaro Castagnet
Su cosa non vedi l'ora di lavorare prossimamente?
I’m excited about working with bigger formats and bigger brushes, to feel freer.
