My name is Scott Stevenson, and I’m a Brand Ambassador with DANIEL SMITH Artist Materials. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is traveling around the country, meeting artists, and sharing what makes DANIEL SMITH truly unique.

Wherever I go, I’m often asked about color, selection, and how to get started with such a wide range. That’s exactly where my dot card comes in.

A Personal Selection of Favorites

My dot card is more than just a sampling of colors. It’s a curated selection that reflects the qualities I value most in watercolor.

At the top, you’ll find PrimaTek watercolors. These are some of my absolute favorites. Made from natural mineral pigments, they offer beautiful granulation and texture that you simply can’t replicate. These are the colors that immediately stand out to me and continue to inspire how I approach a painting.

Balancing with Synthetic Color

Below those, I’ve included a selection of synthetic colors that I rely on just as much. Colors like Moonglow and the Quinacridones bring vibrancy, consistency, and incredible mixing potential.

Quinacridone Gold, in particular, is what I like to call my “secret sauce.” It works with just about everything I use, creating rich, glowing mixtures that elevate a painting without overpowering it.

More Than a Sample, A Starting Point

For me, handing someone my dot card is about more than sharing color. It’s about giving artists a chance to experience what DANIEL SMITH is all about.

It allows them to test, explore, and discover how different pigments behave. From the natural texture of PrimaTek colors to the brilliance of Quinacridones and the shimmer of Luminescents, it’s all there in one place.

Whether you’re just beginning or looking to expand your palette, a dot card is an invitation to experiment and find the colors that speak to you.
