We love seeing how artists bring our watercolors to life—and few do it with as much depth and nuance as Martha Gómez-Silva, also known as “Marty.” In her recent watercolor study, Marty explored the unique characteristics of one of our newest colors, Cobalt Green Deep, a semi-transparent, single pigment paint.
“It lends itself to gorgeous deep woodland landscapes. It mixes effortlessly with other colors– try it with Neutral Tint, or Indigo for fascinating stormy sea and sky effects. Cobalt Green Deep’s granulating qualities will add depth and life to your paintings.” -via danielsmith.com
Pigment: PG 26 | Series: 2
Lightfastness: Excellent
Transparency: Semi-Transparent
Staining: Low-Staining
Granulation: Granulating
Cobalt Green Deep is a granulating, semi-transparent color with a slightly bluish undertone. Unlike more saturated greens, this one speaks softly—offering complexity rather than punch.

In her study, Marty compared Cobalt Green Deep with a lineup of other greens in our watercolor line. The result? Incomparable! This color really stands on its own! The pigment’s granulation adds unexpected texture, while its cooling tone plays a quiet counterpoint.

In broad washes, Cobalt Green Deep softly separates, creating intriguing texture without overwhelming the page.
- Glazed over warmer hues, it tempers and cools them—perfect for atmospheric effects.
- Applied with drybrush, it mimics moss, stone, and organic surfaces with startling realism.

Here a few different mixes Marty tried with intriguing results!
